2,2,3,3-Tetrafluoropropyl represents a complementary fluorinated azide that can be used to access N-tetrafluoropropylated triazoles in a regioselective fashion using the established copper catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition.
When combined with triphenylphoshine1, it immediately forms the corresponding stable iminophosphorane which can be reacted with aldehydes, furnishing hard-to-synthesize N-tetrafluoropropylated aldimines, that can undergo further synthetic transformations, for example reduction to N-tetrafluoro amines that have significantly lower pKa values compared to non-fluorinated counterparts.
The highly polarized RCF2CF2H group of tetrafluoropropylated compounds can act as a mild hydrogen bond donor.
