Azido-PEG4-perfluoro-t-butyl ether introduces a hydrophobic, highly fluorinated motif to molecules separated by a PEG4 linker.
When attached to an alkynylated biomolecule (protein, peptide, nucleic acid, glycan, etc) or advanced material, the 9 magnetically equivalent fluorines can act as 19F NMR sensor of its surroundings and provide high sensing performance even under dilute conditions.
This azide has a medium length linker which is suitable for structural studies where the sensing group should be far from the attachment point.
Additionally, the hydrophobic nature of the fluorinated reporter is partially compensated by the PEG4 linker.
